Educational Qualifications

Prof Chan Yoke Kai is Adjunct Professor in the School of Business, Singapore University of Social Sciences. His previous appointments in SUSS included Advisor, and Head of Accountancy Programme, Director of Centre for Applied Research and Head of Taxation Programme. He was previously the Deputy President (Development), University of New South Wales Asia, and President and Chief Operating Officer, AEC Edu Group. He had been a faculty member of business schools in Nanyang Technological University, and the National University of Singapore, and a Visiting Scholar in the University of Sydney.

Prof Chan is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (FCAS), a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA), a Fellow Certified Public Accountant Australia (FCPA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (United Kingdom) (CGMA). His academic degrees were from the University of New South Wales (M.Com Honours), and the University of Singapore (B Acc Honours).

Prof Chan wrote numerous chapters in books and articles related to the accounting profession and have published extensively and in top accounting journals. In 1994, he was the American Accounting Association Finalist of the Notable Contribution to Management Accounting Literature Award for his significant contribution to accounting literature. Prof Chan had been an External Examiner to Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the University of Wales and also refereed papers and books for several accounting journals and Prentice Hall.

Prof Chan served in various industry and professional committees which included the Education Committee of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce (SICC) and the Singapore Accounting Commission (SAC) Learning & Assessment Committee. The latter was the pioneer Committee which laid out the foundation for the implementation of the Singapore CA Qualification (SCAQ) in 2013 and included developing policies and procedures for the SAC Professional Examinations. He had also sat in the SCAQ Practical Experience Work Group. He currently serves as a member of the Disciplinary Panel of the Institute of Valuers and Appraisers, Singapore.

He has served as a Committee Member of the Panel of Inquiry, and the Ethics Committee of the Public Accountants Board, Singapore which has been reconstituted as part of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority of Singapore (ACRA). He was also a Member of the Complaints and Disciplinary Panel of ACRA, and of various committees of ISCA over three decades. He is currently a Board Member of the Global Research Board of CIMA and a Member of the ACCA Education Global Forum.

In September 2019, Prof Chan was appointed to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC)’s new International Panel on Accountancy Education (IPAE) together with twenty-one other key executives and leaders from the global accountancy profession. He is among seven of the panel members from Asia Pacific and is the only representative from ASEAN.

He is currently a Council Member of ISCA, and Treasurer & Council Member of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA). He also serves in the ASEAN-Singapore Monitoring Committee. He is a past President of CIMA (Singapore Branch).

Prof Chan is keenly attuned to lifelong learning which is a national agenda for Singapore. He played an instrumental role in facilitating the development of the ISCA-SUSS Business Analytics Certification Programme which enables accountants to deepen their skill sets in data analytics.

He was awarded the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore 2008 Silver Medal Award for contribution and services to the accountancy profession and the community.
