Educational Qualifications

Adjunct Professor Lau Ping Sum Pearce is an independent director of three SGX-listed companies and Non- Executive Chairman of one of these. He is also a director of Napier Healthcare Solutions Pte Ltd and a member of the Singapore Institute of Directors. Currently, he serves as a part-time Simultaneous Interpreter in the Parliament of Singapore (1998-present, 1967-1980). Since 1998, he has worked as a conference interpreter for trade and development, investment, banking, marketing, IT, culture, healthcare, media development and international arbitration (SIAC), etc. He was a simultaneous interpreter for the Prime Minister’s National Day Rally speech (1985- 2014) and acted as a Mandarin interpreter for Singapore leaders in meetings with leaders from Greater China and during Constituency visits (1983 to 2016).

He held the position of the Political Secretary to the Minister of Health between 1981 and 1985. He was People’s Action Party (PAP) Member of Parliament for Yio Chu Kang (1980-1991) and Ang Mo Kio GRC (1992-1996). He served as Executive Director of PAP headquarters (2001-2013), Executive director of the PAP Community Foundation (2001-2012), a member of the PAP’s Central Executive Committee (1984-1986) and Organising Secretary (Special Duties) (1981 to 1991). He was a recipient of Meritorious Services Award, PAP.

Prior to his political career, Adjunct Prof Lau was the Head of Computer Services in a statutory board and two local banks in Singapore. He served as General Manager of NTUC Link Pte Ltd (1997-2000) and Chief Manager of Associated Data Processing Pte Ltd (1978-1982).

Adjunct Prof Lau took on advisory roles such as a member of MICA ACCESS (Advisory Committee on Chinese "programmes" (1994-2004) and Chairman of Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital Medifund Committee (1996-2002).

Mr Lau holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the Australian National University (Colombo Plan scholarship) and a Diploma in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore.
