Teaching and Learning: Fostering Regional Friendships

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Project, a collaborative initiative aimed at strengthening early childhood education in West Java, Indonesia, involved three key partners: the Singapore International Foundation (SIF), the Indonesian Kindergarten Teachers Association (IGTKI-PGRI) of West Java, and the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). By employing a hybrid approach that combined in-person workshops led by the SUSS Early Childhood Education faculty, digital resources, and a study visit to Singapore, the project aimed to enhance teaching quality and ensure a long-lasting impact on West Java’s early childhood education ecosystem.

Phase One of the project was launched in 2019 and concluded successfully, benefiting over 11,000 members of the Indonesian community, including students, parents, and caregivers. This outcome exceeded the initial target of 9,250 participants. Currently, the second phase of the project is nearing completion and seeks to build upon the achievements of the first phase by deepening pedagogical expertise and promoting sustainable teaching practices. It included six hybrid training workshops that focused on classroom management, student engagement, and curriculum design, facilitated by faculty from the Early Childhood Education Programme. Additionally, a study visit to Singapore was organised for participants, allowing them to observe various preschool settings and engage with early education experts.

Overall, the ECE Project exemplifies a strong international partnership dedicated to improving early childhood education through shared expertise, capacity building, and sustainable knowledge exchange.
