Celebrating the Achievements of Supply Chain Management Students - MaritimeONE Digital Challenge

Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) students from the Bachelor of Science in Supply Chain Management have once again demonstrated their exceptional expertise and knowledge within the industry. Organised by MaritimeONE Connect Office, a division of the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), and generously sponsored by prominent multinational corporations such as Eastern Pacific Shipping, IMC Shipping, and Pacific International Lines, the MaritimeONE Digital Challenge provided students with challenge statements and invaluable mentorship, along with support from industry leaders. The event served as a platform for students to network with both industry professionals and peers from other tertiary institutions.

Team Tenderisers, led by Iwanaga Kenichi and with members comprising Muhammad Syahiran Bin Sulong Khairudin, Tan Fang Yi, and Ngui Jia Xin Wendi, achieved a remarkable feat by securing the first runner-up position in the highly competitive third edition of the MaritimeONE Digital Challenge 2023. Team Tenderisers chose to tackle the challenge statement proposed by Pacific International Lines (PIL), focusing on the intricacies of tender management processes in the shipping industry. Recognising the significance of digitalisation in optimising manual processes and improving productivity, the team conducted extensive research and developed a prototype showcasing the integration of the tender process into a digital platform.

Upon learning that they had advanced to the final top 3 teams surpassing competitors in the PIL category, Team Tenderisers faced the subsequent challenge of refining their case solution and platform prototype within a two-week timeframe. Under the guidance of industrial mentors from PIL and SUSS faculty including Associate Professor Tan Yan Weng, Head, SUSS Logistics and Supply Chain Management Programme and Dr Xiao Zengqi, Lecturer, SUSS Logistics and Supply Chain Management Programme, the team honed their solution, ultimately securing the prestigious first runner-up position in the PIL MaritimeONE Digital Challenge 2023.

On 8 November 2023, the awards ceremony was held at the M Hotel Banquet Ballroom. The event was graced by Mr David Foo, Assistant Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The team’s success was celebrated by the two Professors, SUSS Career Development Office representatives Ms Sarah Neo and Ms Helen Khek, as well as members from the Supply Chain Interest Group (SCIG).

This competition provided Team Tenderisers with a comprehensive understanding of tender management processes beyond the scope of their regular coursework, enhancing their skills and providing a platform to showcase their talents. Furthermore, the experience facilitated meaningful connections and interactions with industry specialists and leaders, offering invaluable insights into the multifaceted maritime industry.

Heartfelt congratulations are extended to Team Tenderisers for their outstanding achievement, with anticipation for the many more milestones awaiting them in their promising future.
