SUSS Philharmonic Performance at Singapore Nautical Institute’s 45th Gala Dinner

In collaboration with Novo Winds, a non-profit community band backed by Toa Payoh South Community Club, SUSS Philharmonic performed at the Singapore Nautical Institute (SNI) on 3 November 2023, to showcase the power of music in conveying messages of resilience and triumph over adversity.

In between school, work, and other commitments, Philharmonic members had three months to prepare for the performance.

Through their musical interpretations of life's challenges, they inspire audiences to find their inner strength amid life's tribulations.

The piece, “Tempest”, takes inspiration from Shakespeare's play, which explores themes of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. Through their musical interpretation, the orchestra brings these themes to life, illustrating how music can serve as a powerful tool for expressing and inspiring resilience.

Similarly, in their rendition of songs from "The Greatest Showman," the orchestra showcases not only their technical skills but also their ability to convey emotions and artistic expression. This serves as a reminder that even in difficult times, it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve greatness.

Joseph Teo, the conductor of Novo Winds, shared his experience: “Leading the SUSS Philharmonic for the SNI performance was an invigorating experience. This singular event was a testament to the power of musical synergy and artistic excellence. The synergy between the musicians and myself led to a performance that was not only technically accomplished but also emotionally resonant. Their dedication and skills greatly contributed to the success of the performance, making it a memorable chapter in all of our musical journeys. I am certainly looking forward to more musical and artistic collaborations with this group in the future.”

Vrinda Chua, our SUSS Philharmonics In-charge, also shared her experience with the collaboration and preparation process for the performance: “It was a great experience to play for the wonderful audience of SNI’s 45th anniversary with the support of our new friends, Novo Winds, who made the performance possible in such a short period. I look forward to future possible collaborations with the conductor and their band”.
