Synopsis

The southern part of India is known from the very ancient days as the Tamil land. From the early days the country was divided into three territorial units –the Seras in the west, the Pandiyas in the south, and the Chols in the east and the north, ruled by these princes. In the 3rd Century AD, a new dynasty, the Pallava, was established. This course covers a wide range of topics, from the Indus Valley Civilization to the arrival of foreign powers and India’s eventual independence of India. It deals extensively with Chola, Chera and Pandiya Kingdoms and others such as Vijayanagar Kingdoms, Muslim dynasties and European domination. The Tamils’ social, economic and political situation will also be covered.
