Overview

Aviation plays a crucial role in Singapore’s economic growth, connectivity and technological advancement. The strategic location as an aviation hub enables the seamless movement of goods and people, driving economic development and attracting foreign investments. Moreover, it facilitates international trade, making it essential for global collaboration, cultural exchange and economic prosperity.

The Integrated Pathway Programme, building upon the expertise of SUSS and Singapore Flying College (SFC), equips students with the abilities of critical thinking to comprehend, foster and future-proof the business holistically, as opposed to focusing solely a business unit level. Graduates can expect to be conferred a bachelor’s degree in their specialised domain, culminating in the acquisition of a Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) Commercial Pilots License (CPL). The diversification of skills not only prepares graduates to become pilots but also well-positioned for career advancement to higher management levels in the aviation industry.

The programme offers a balanced curriculum that covers essential professional modules as well as CPL expertise. Armed with a solid foundation in diverse skills and knowledge fundamentals from their chosen SUSS major, students can focus on developing their technical flying skills and aviation theory. In addition to the extensive course offerings, the CPL training offers students access to state-of-the-art aviation facilities and cutting-edge technology to further enhance their skills.

The CPL modules are designed to equip students with all the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue a career as a professional pilot. Whether aspiring to operate independently in general aviation or as part of a collaborative multi-crew team in an airline, this meticulously crafted programme, curated by SFC experts with extensive industry experience, offers a comprehensive pathway towards the goal.

Our aim is to provide both the best academic curriculum and practical training to prepare graduates for successful careers as professional pilots. In collaboration with key players in the aviation industry, the programme is designed to immerse students in practical experiences through mentorships and partner programmes, strategically accelerating progress towards becoming a first officer. Delve into aviation theory aligned with the CAAS and Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Australia (CASA) CPL syllabus. Partnering with SFC, a fusion of theoretical and practical content is provided by seasoned professionals leveraging collective experience to deliver top-notch training.

Beyond the aviation sector, graduates of this programme can assume various roles in diverse industries, aligning with the professional skills acquired through their chosen SUSS major programme.

In the aviation industry, students from the Integrated Pathway Programme, supported by SFC, will have the opportunity to apply for, and undergo, the pilot selection process with the SIA group during the course of their training. A conditional letter of employment from the SIA group may be offered to successful applicants.
    1. Is the Integrated Pathway Programme open to other residents, such as EP holders?
The Integrated Pathway Programme (IPP) is available for Singaporeans, Permanent Residents and other residents in Singapore with valid passes in Singapore. These eligibility criteria are consistent with the usual requirements for all other part-time undergraduate  requirements. We will not be able to enrol international students into the IPP.

    2. How is the SFC practical being run?
According to the study plan, SFC practical training will commence with ground coursework and flight training starting from the Special Semester in Year 2 (e.g., May 2027 for the Jul 2025 intake). Students are encouraged to adhere to the study plan to ensure a more efficient and effective integration of SUSS and SFC courses.

    3. What will the flying schedule be like for a CPL?
In addition to completing the SFC ground school, students will be required to stay overseas for a full calendar year to undertake their flight training. For example, students in the Jul 2025 intake will attend the CPL flying training at Jandakot, Australia in 2028.

    4. How is the fee structure like? For the SFC programme, do students pay by instalments or lump sum at one go?
Major courses' tuition fees: SUSS will charge the tuition fees as usual, based on the number of credit units (cu) registered for each semester.

SFC CPL - Programme Fees: Payment of programme fees will be made directly to SFC. Students must pay for the ground school courses prior to the commencement date, while payments for flight training will be billed as students reach different stages of their flying hours.

    5. Does any SUSS scholarship, sponsorship, subsidy or funding cover the full tuition fees and expenses required to obtain a CPL? Since some CPL practical will be conducted overseas, can the student still apply for a study loan to cover the CPL programme fees and Major tuition fees?
Existing financial aid schemes, including SUSS Scholarships, will only cover the tuition fees for the part-time undergraduate programme Major. Students will have to self-fund the fees for the CPL training.

    6. If a current student decided to take up the IPP track or wish to Transfer of Programme (TOP) from another programme to the one with IPP track, can they do so? What will be the process like?
Currently, the IPP will not be available in the upcoming TOP cycles as it is not an "active" programme before July 2025. Should there be any possibility for the IPP to accept some TOP students, an interview, similar to the admission procedures and managed by the IPP faculty and SFC members, will be conducted.

Applicants shortlisted through the interview process will be required to take the aptitude (COMPASS) test, and then a CAAS Class 1 Medical examination. Only those who pass BOTH the COMPASS and Class 1 Medical will be eligible to transfer to the IPP.

    7. Will there be any age limit for enrolling in the IPP?
Applicants need to be at least 21 years old as per usual part-time undergraduate programme admission requirements. In addition, a CPL can be held by individuals up to the age of 65. Therefore, applicants should consider the age factor when applying to the IPP to ensure they are able to pursue a career as a pilot after graduation.

    8. Will students’ performance in SFC affect his/her grades in the degree programme?
No, the performance in the SFC courses will not affect grades in the Major programme. However, re-sitting or retaking any SUSS modules or the SFC courses would certainly impact the four-year timeline for completing the concurrent bachelor's degree and the CPL.
