Japanese Association Singapore’s Summer Festival 2024

The Japanese Summer Festival, a vibrant celebration of Japanese culture, took place on 24 August 2024. Amidst the festivities, SUSS volunteers from the Cross-Cultural Immersion Interest Group (CCI-IG) played a crucial role in ensuring the event's success.

Volunteers assisted with queue control at various stalls, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all attendees. They also immersed themselves in the festivities, participating in the traditional Bon-Odori dance, a beloved tradition that brings people together.

Student volunteers shared their experiences:

  • Wong Jia Xin Brigitte, a Year 1 Business Analytics student: "I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the Japanese Summer Festival. It was fascinating to be immersed in Japanese culture, seeing Singaporeans dressed in traditional attire and experiencing the warm hospitality of the Japanese community."
  • A Kohilavani, a Year 3 Social Work student: "Volunteering at the festival was an enriching experience. I learned about Japanese culture, explored the school grounds, and appreciated the value of cultural exchange in our multicultural society."

By participating in this event, SUSS volunteers not only contributed to the success of the festival but also gained valuable insights into Japanese culture. This experience further strengthens the bond between Singapore and Japan and fosters cross-cultural understanding.
