Spotlight on Social Impact: SUSS Students' Powerful Documentaries

SUSS Digital Media students enrolled in the MTD301 Introduction to Audio and Video Production course recently showcased their powerful storytelling skills through a series of short films focused on social good.

As part of their end-of-course assignment, students delved into the heart of Singapore’s diverse communities, capturing poignant stories of individuals making a difference. From volunteers assisting the elderly to organisations empowering marginalised groups, these films shed light on the many faces of social impact.

The culmination of this project was a film screening event held on 6 September at Projector X Cineleisure. The event showcased the students’ work to a wide audience, including friends, family, and industry professionals. The screening provided a platform for students to receive valuable feedback and celebrate their achievements.

  • Joey Tan Pei San: “Winning an award for my film, ‘Guardians of the Lonely Departed’, was a surreal experience. It’s a dream come true to see my work on the big screen.”
  • Jessie Tan Ser Ling: “Watching my classmates’ documentaries was truly inspiring. Their films highlighted the power of storytelling to create positive change.”

Dr Jonathan Foo, Course Lead for MTD301, expressed his pride in the students’ work: “The Annual SUSS MTD301 Film Screening has become a significant event for our students. This year’s films were particularly impactful, showcasing the students’ ability to use their creative skills to address social issues.”
