Synopsis

This module introduces painting as a medium for representation, expression and meaning making. Students will, through the exploration of various paint mediums and techniques, expand on their creative approaches to painting in either traditional or more conceptual terms. This creative capacity is enhanced with the experience to decode painted imagery using the two main approaches of Formal Analysis and Contextual Analysis. The role of painting is then discussed in the context of our local schools so as to establish certain frameworks and practices needed to ensure the delivery of a robust painting programme.
