The foundation of any new learning courseware is the course planning document which encompasses curriculum mapping and content sequencing. This workshop is intended for both instructors and course developers who are looking to better design a curriculum map and align it with the intended learning outcomes for enhanced efficacy. Participants will learn about the principles of creating a curriculum map and organising its content. The intended learning outcomes of a course will be identified, and the course syllabus will be decomposed into discrete concepts or knowledge points at the appropriate level of granularity. The relationships between knowledge points will be identified to establish the pre-requisite links and intended content sequences. A clear and concise curriculum map not only allows instructors and course developers to plan, implement and assess the lessons well, but more importantly, it can also support better outcomes for individual students.
At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to address the following:
- describe the principles of creating a curriculum map and organising content
- develop the intended learning outcomes of a course
- decompose course syllabus into discrete knowledge points at the appropriate level of granularity
- analyse the relationships between knowledge points to establish the pre-requisite links and intended content sequences
- evaluate the alignment between learning outcomes, knowledge points and assessment
