Working as a Commercial Banking Intern, I was given a wealth of opportunities to understand and participate in their day-to-day work. I was given meaningful tasks which allowed me to contribute to my team’s efforts and hone my grasp on real-life application of financial concepts. This internship allowed me to hone my grasp of financial analysis and investigative skills.  

On top of our exposure to real-life operations, UOB Hong Kong presented opportunities to improve ourselves such as conducting workshops on business etiquette and presentation skills. These workshops were highly relevant to our daily work, and I was thoroughly impressed by the company’s emphasis of continual learning to value-add to our experience.

Being immersed in an environment which conversed in a mix of Cantonese, Chinese and English, I gradually adapted to using multiple languages to take instructions for my work. Working and interacting with my fellow colleagues and interns have also widened my perspective of how a global business landscape will shape my career upon graduation.

This OWA has given me the opportunity to build my experience in a foreign environment and has also allowed me to gain vast insights on Hong Kong’s people and culture. It was exciting knowing that after a week of hard work, I was able to explore Hong Kong and immerse myself in a different environment.

Before embarking on this Overseas Work Attachment, one of my main concerns was the expenditure needed to fund my experience overseas, which the Global Readiness Talent funding curated by the school tempered my financial concerns.

Being able to adjust living and working in a foreign environment has taught me the importance of being adaptable, resourceful, and staying curious. It has been a great stint for me, and I am absolutely confident that my experience will encourage you to do the same!
