Service-Learning (S-L) Experience at Shantou University

China is a 10-day course offered by the Shantou University Office of Service Learning in the Summer Semester. Each course consists of 16-hours of in-class lessons and 32-hours of community engagement. In 2017, four SUSS students enrolled in the courses Photography at Ancient Village and Caring for Children with Special Learning Needs.

Other information:

• All courses will be conducted in Mandarin. Students with a good command of the Chinese language (both spoken and written) are encouraged to participate
• Accommodation: dormitory at STU
• Self-paid airfare, travel insurance, accommodation and other travel expenses (estimated cost $1200)

– Community Outreach Program (COP) 2018 with Petra Christian University

The Community Outreach Program (COP) is an inter-disciplinary educational activity that provides students of diverse nationalities from Petra’s international partner universities with a learning experience of living in the local community to respond to the actual social life and assist with community development issues.

All students are divided into several teams consisting of different nationalities. Each team will be placed in different villages and experience living like villagers.

Tentative dates
Mojokerto, East Java: 16 July - 9 August 2018 (3 weeks)
Kupang, NTT: 26 July - 9 August 2018 (2 weeks)
As students will miss classes in Term 1 Week 1, students will need to apply for Leave of Absence (if applicable).
