CATTI-SUSS Examination Centre

SUSS and CATTI Education and Technology Centre have entered a partnership to administer China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) (全国翻译专业资格 (水平)考试), and Chinese Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters, International (CATTI International) (国际中文通用翻译能力测试). The partnership seeks to further develop and identify local and regional talents in translation and interpretation, and to strengthen SUSS’s position as a translation and interpretation training and certifying institution in Singapore.

The CATTI-SUSS examination centre administers only English-Chinese language pair.

The China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI, 全国翻译专业资格 (水平) 考试,简称:CATTI专业级考试) is an accreditation examination commissioned by China's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MHRSS) and administered by China International Publishing Group (CIPG, 外文局).

Recognition

Launched since 2003, CATTI has been an integral part of China's national system of professional qualification certificates (中国国务院职业资格证书制度). It is the only language related professional qualification to be included in China's national vocational qualification system, and the only language related professional qualification listed by China's State Council in 2017, as well as one of the ten most recognised certificates in China, as cited by The People's Daily and other mainstream media in China.

It is also a compulsory examination for all students studying Master in Translation and Interpretation in China. Candidates who pass any of the levels can apply to be a member of the Translators Association of China (TAC).

Level of Certificates

There are 4 levels of certificates:

  • Senior Translator (译审)
  • Level 1 (一级)
  • Level 2 (二级)
  • Level 3 (三级)

The certificates are issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China and the China International Publishing Group.

Target Candidates

CATTI is opened to all who are fluent in both English and Chinese, regardless of their education or work experiences. However, it is highly recommended for professional translators and interpreters, Bachelor's and Master's degree holders in translation and interpretation, and those who wish to work as a professional translator and interpreter.

Examination Format

The translation examination consists of two parts:

  • Translating Comprehensive Aptitude (120 minutes)
  • Translating Practice (180 minutes)

The interpretation examination consists of two parts:

  • Interpreting Comprehensive Aptitude (60 minutes)
