Meet Jave Tan, Deputy Head (Student Life, Student SUcceSS Centre)!

In the years that Jave has been in SUSS, his journey has been nothing short of exciting. He started off running University-wide events like Orientations and Convocations and subsequently an internal transfer opportunity landed him where he is now! Let's dive into his story and discover the what drives his passion and dedication.

Jave’s work largely involves mentoring student leaders on how to manage their working teams and their Interest Groups (IGs). He guides them through their thought process and provides input on their event/activity proposals. He also helps students in starting up new IGs. 

His dedication and nurturing approach have yielded results, leading to his promotion to Deputy Head of Student Life. In this role, he supports the Head (Student Life) in strategising, implementing and evaluating the office plans and in the delivery of Student Life activities and programmes for SUSS students.

"The fun part of my job comes from joining the students in their activities and events that they have planned – witnessing the fruit of their labour after spending a lot of time and effort into conceptualising and putting it into action!  Our team is always working hard to find partners to curate experiential learning opportunities together for our student leaders, especially in the aspect of sustainability leadership, so one of the “perks” of the job includes travelling overseas." - Jave Tan

Working with students can be especially rewarding. Seeing student leaders grow into their leadership roles and receiving gratitude for the guidance given, brings Jave immense job satisfaction.

In addition, Jave finds his colleagues to be easy-going and fun-loving. He believes that while work is never easy, the camaraderie and motivation among teammates has kept him going through the hard times.
