Synopsis

CRM314 Commercial and White-Collar Crime: White-collar and corporate crime has an impact on the whole nation as they destabilise the integrity and reliability of the commercial sector which can lead to spillover effects on all other key sectors of the country. This course equips students with the knowledge needed to embark on a career beyond criminal justice agencies within the government sector. It focuses on the security issues attuned to the needs of the wider commercial sector. In this course, students will examine what led to cases of embezzlement, insider threats, money laundering, industrial crimes/espionage and more. They will also explore what causes criminal behaviour by someone in a corporate setting and how these behaviours can be prevented. Students will also learn how to investigate the tell-tale signs indicative of such commercial crime using organisational data and analytics. This course can prepare students for a career in roles such as fraud investigation, commercial security risk assessment/management, security planning against insider threats, and financial forensics.
