Synopsis

ECE597 The Early Childhood Research Seminars has been designed to equip early childhood educators with knowledge of research methodologies, thereby enabling them to evaluate a piece of research and design their own Action Research. Students will be introduced to different research approaches, methodologies, paradigms, methods, and tools using the research onion. They will examine in greater depth Action Research and Practitioner Enquiry, as well as the methods and tools associated with them. The development of tools, such as surveys, semi-structured interviews, and observation templates, will be discussed, along with the validity and reliability of those tools. The challenges of conducting research with young children will be addressed. Data analysis, including analysing quantitative data to provide descriptive statistics and coding using the Thematic Approach, will also be discussed. Students will also learn how to search for relevant literature from peer-reviewed journals and write a cogent literature review.
