Synopsis

LOG231 Maritime Business and Management introduces the maritime industry to students by highlighting key aspects of the maritime business. The course provides an overview of concepts and theories pertaining to the maritime industry and covers a broad range of sectors including the container, liquid bulk, dry bulk, general cargo and cruise businesses. Students will be exposed to principles that drive interactions and relationship between the four major markets that affect the maritime industry, as well as role of flag state and port state in regulatory matters. The concept of maritime clusters will also be introduced in relation to policy making and development of the maritime industry in Singapore. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with a broad- based understanding of the maritime industry from the commercial, regulatory and managerial perspectives.
