Synopsis

Psychological assessment and formulation skills are integral clinical skills of a clinical psychologist. In this course, students will acquire advanced knowledge and skills in psychological test administration, interpretation of assessment results, and report writing. Students will learn to use common psychometrically validated assessments used across the lifespan, ranging from behavioural, cognitive, personality and psychoeducational assessments. Students will gain knowledge on the utility of different and commonly used psychological assessments in the Singapore context. Students will also learn to critically appraise the validity and reliability of the different assessment tools and evaluate the assessment’s utility based on its robustness, effectiveness and the appropriate population for its use. Formulation of an assessment hypothesis and administration of a variety of psychometrically validated assessment tools will be a key focus of this course.
