Clinical Neuropsychology (PSY535)

Synopsis

Students will acquire the knowledge and skills to effectively assess, conceptualise, and plan interventions for neuropsychological issues across the lifespan. Students will also learn about basic neuroanatomy, the core domains of cognitive functioning, and common clinical presentations. Students will develop a hypothesis-driven approach to neuropsychological assessment, learning test administration, scoring, and interpretation. Integration of research findings with clinical data and using knowledge from their clinical psychology training, students will learn to create holistic individualised intervention plan for a neurological/neuro-rehabilitation population. A multi-model approach to assessing competency will be used to mimic real-life application of skills acquired.

  • Differentiate clinical profiles from the expected level of cognitive performance in a normative population
  • Judge the relevance and validity of various neuropsychological assessment tools
  • Create a holistic individualised intervention plan that includes psychological intervention for the patient
  • Combine and integrate assessment findings with other relevant clinical data into a comprehensive neuropsychological report
  • Assess the functioning of individuals using different neuropsychological assessments
