'The SUSS student leads with his head as well as his heart'
I was looking for MBA courses to enhance and excel in my career. I understood the importance of having both ‘hardware’ and ‘heartware’ skills in corporate leaders, and eventually chose to continue my education journey with SUSS, 'SUSS’s emphasis on sustainability and social responsibility resonated with me.' My academic journey was not an easy one, already having to juggle between family and work, adding studies to the mix met with some difficulties but pushing forward, I eventually completed my course with good results.
I fondly recall many memories of my time at SUSS, notably a team project where we had the opportunity to work hands-on with a non-profit organisation, receiving commendations from the management for the positive impact our project made. 'More than just getting good grades for the project, which we did, what really made it extra special was the work put in by my project group members to make a real difference to a not-for-profit organisation.' Since graduating, I have been continuing to serve the community through personal voluntary efforts and corporate efforts, highlighting the importance of sustainability and corporate social responsibility at my workplace – TCDX Pte Ltd, initiating the formation of a welfare committee. These efforts were recognised in 2020, where we were awarded the the Certification of Appreciation by President Halimah Yacob for voluntary and philanthropic engagements during the pandemic.
The experiences in SUSS changed the way I see the world. Seeing the Advancement Alumni Advisory Committee as a good vehicle to contribute and share my experiences with others, I made the decision to become a member. Through my involvement in the committee, I hope to advocate students on the importance of 'giving' – whether big or small, will make a difference.
