Delegation Visit from China University of Political Science and Law 中国政法大学

On Dec 12 (Thursday) delegation from the Business School of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), visited the Singapore University of Social Sciences.

The visit was hosted by SUSS Graduate Studies, with representatives from the School of Business, the School of Law, and the College of Interdisciplinary & Experiential Learning joining to welcome the delegation. The objective of this visit was to deepen knowledge sharing and explore collaborative opportunities between the two institutions.

Located in Beijing, CUPL is renowned as China’s leading university for legal education and is widely regarded as a pioneer in the field. Since its establishment in 2002, the CUPL Business School has played a significant role in advancing interdisciplinary talent development, particularly at the intersection of law and business. The school’s unique integration of legal and business expertise positions it as a leader in cross-disciplinary education and innovation.

The CUPL Business School delegation sought to gain a deeper understanding of SUSS’s extensive experience in cultivating “application-oriented talent” and to explore how this educational philosophy and model could be integrated into their own professional education frameworks. Additionally, the delegation expressed keen interest in SUSS’s commitment to nurturing “lifelong learners” who contribute to societal welfare, and they aimed to identify areas for further dialogue and collaboration in these domains.

During the meeting, Associate Professor Fang Zheng, Director of Graduate Studies at SUSS, introduced the university’s history, mission, and core educational philosophies. She also provided a detailed overview of the unique features of SUSS’s international postgraduate programs, including its master’s and doctoral offerings.

The session also featured presentations from other key representatives:

  • Associate Professor Darren Koh, Vice Dean of the School of Law, shared insights into the teaching and research domains, faculty expertise, and student composition at the School of Law.
  • Associate Professor Alex Qian, Head of the Master of Science in Management Programme, provided a comprehensive overview of the School of Business, focusing on its interdisciplinary approach to education and its efforts to prepare students for leadership roles in a dynamic global marketplace.
  • Valerie Goh, Head of Global Learning from the College of Interdisciplinary & Experiential Learning, highlighted SUSS’s international exchange programs for undergraduate students, emphasising opportunities for cross-cultural learning and global exposure.

On behalf of CUPL, Professor Liu Zhixiong, Vice Dean of the Business School, presented an overview of CUPL’s history, philosophy, and academic strengths. He elaborated on the unique academic framework of CUPL’s Business School, which combines the university’s strong legal foundations with business studies, creating a distinctive interdisciplinary approach.

The meeting concluded with Associate Professor Ding Ding, Dean of the SUSS School of Business, expressing her gratitude for the CUPL delegation’s visit. She also provided an overview of the School of Business’s existing international collaboration projects and reaffirmed SUSS’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships with CUPL.
