On 25 July 2020, 70 SUSS students, of which 20 of them are freshmen from the July 2020 intake, attended the very first online event – Effective Learning Techniques Workshop – held by the Student Events Team! The trainer for the session is Mr Michael Tan, who is an Associate Lecturer with a local-based University since 1995. Till date, he has mentored many students whereby he taught them tips on how to study more effectively and has also helped many trainees to advance themselves to the next level of their careers.
It was a fruitful 1.5hrs session with Mr Tan where he introduced the VAK learning styles to the participants, namely “Visual”, “Auditory” and “Kinesthetic”. He emphasised to the participants that it was important for them to understand their own personal learning style, so that they can design their own learning methods to be more productive when studying. He also carried out a Q&A session via Slido for participants to clear any doubts that they had.
All in all, from the feedback survey administered, we could deduce that majority of the participants had enjoyed the event very much. They were grateful for the insightful tips that the trainer had shared and also managed to find out what kind of learning style suit them better. They mentioned that they were excited to apply these tips to learn better in class and also to excel in their studies. Some of the students even described Mr Tan as fatherly and motivating. We are glad to have engaged Mr Tan for this event and will definitely look forward to partnering with him again so that more SUSS students can leverage on the useful information that he has to share!
