The School of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences (SHBS) at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) is excited to welcome you to "Language, Camera, Action!", this year's edition of the biennial Language in Singapore forums.
Language is integral to film and television, helping to drive narrative, action, expression and meaning. Skilful film- and TV-making requires skilled language choices and careful language considerations, but these are made even more complex in multicultural, multilingual Singapore.
This year's forum gathers four exciting speakers – screenwriters, directors, educators – for a dialogue on language in Singapore film and TV.
Drawing on their deep experience and expertise in film and TV, they will lead us in exploring the roles, nature and development of language(s) on screen in Singapore. Together, we will ask questions about the role of language in making meaning, telling stories, enacting identity and society, and preserving linguistic heritage and diversity, as well as look at professional and practical challenges, considerations and constraints in the use of language(s) on screen.
