PatrickShiSMART and Emerging Technologies in Facilities Management (FM)

Dr Patrick Shi, Senior Lecturer, SUSS
Time: 3.00pm – 4.00pm
Venue: Seminar Room 3, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music

Existing practices in the Facilities Management (FM) sector are highly trade-specific and primarily focused on manual inspections. In the Real Estate Industry Transformation Map (ITM) launched in 2018, one of the two thrusts was to ‘embrace innovation and leverage technology’ to ensure FM professionals are future-ready. The sector is encouraged to adopt smart technology to increase its productivity and reduce its manpower reliance. This can be done through emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, and Machine Learning. This workshop will address some emerging smart technologies that will shape the future of the FM sector.

TimChuahThe Paradigm of Digital Industries

Mr Tim Chuah, Director, Frost & Sullivan Asia Pac
Time: 3.00pm – 4.00pm
Venue: Function Room 2, University Cultural Centre

Digital trends have changed our way of life, from how we work, play, commute, and even the way we consume media. However, the disruption has largely been limited to non-manufacturing sectors. Large parts of manufacturing have been unreceptive to this change, preferring to stick to the tried and tested way. But there are clear signs that this is about to change. Digitalisation is poised for greater adoption among a greater proportion of manufacturers in the near future. This presentation will help you understand how Industry 4.0 will transform manufacturing and how it will benefit both manufacturers and consumers alike.

Transformation Through Digital Technologies

SkillsFutureFestivalNUS-p1The jumbo exhibition by SUSS will feature a series of collaborations between the university and industry. One of the exhibitors features a digital bar that an F&B company transforms their customer experience, presenting a new way of serving the Asian Icon, bubble tea. There will also be an 1.7 AI concierge robot – VAL2 – capable of speaking two languages, as well as a demonstration on virtual reality (VR) technology and augmented reality (AR) in education. These tools can bring an immersive experience to the classroom, allowing teachers to teleport the students to environments which may not be easy or convenient to get to.
