Putting on a pair of boxing gloves isn’t an everyday affair for many, but for Coach Velvan, a gold medalist and multiple-time national champion, this has become a way of life.
Excited participants gear up for the workshop.
In a first-ever workshop organised by the SUSS Boxing Club, like-minded enthusiasts got to bond over their love for the sport as they threw friendly punches under the watchful guidance of Coach Velvan.
Coach Velvan (center) demonstrates the boxing stance and shares his professional knowledge with SUSS student participants.
These participants ranged from beginners to seasoned boxers from SUSS’ Boxing Club. The supportive environment encouraged them to have a go at some beginner’s techniques and progress to crucial foundation poses that would allow them to participate in the sport safely.
Year 2 Supply Chain Management student, Nicolette Goh, who was one of the participants, shared, “It was a fun session with a great coach and members. Everyone was very supportive and patient despite some of us lacking in boxing knowledge. Thank you, SUSS Boxing Club for organising this!”
A Q&A session with Coach Velvan allows SUSS students to find out more about boxing.
The hands-on workshop concluded with an insightful panel session that allowed 30 SUSS students to address the myths and stereotypes associated with boxing and explore it as a competitive sport.
