The SUSS Outdoor Adventure Interest Group (ODA IG) is back in action once again! Building on past collaborations, they teamed up with the Children’s Cancer Foundation Singapore (CCF) for a second edition of the YouthConnect Camp, a student-led initiative to create a memorable experience for CCF youths through an Amazing Race Challenge.
Radiant smiles and hearts full of warmth amongst the SUSS students after an incredible day spent with the amazing youths!
Tapping on their outdoor survival knowledge, the ODA IG team first equipped the youths with basic navigation and map reading skills. Four groups of youths, led by SUSS ODA IG students, then set off to navigate their way to game stations around Pasir Ris Park, armed only with a map, compass, and puzzle-pieces as clues.

At each station, the groups were given the autonomy to choose between two versions of games. Each version differed in difficulty levels, allowing the activities to cater to the varying abilities of the youths. Beyond fostering teamwork, the activities also helped bolster the confidence of the youths in their own abilities.

Wong Si Hui, SUSS Year 2 Marketing student and ODA IG Deputy Water Sports Leader shared, “With deliberate activity planning and collaboration with CCF, the amazing race challenge was well received by CCF youths. Our team also had fun interacting with CCF youths during the activities which aim to empower youths in building their confidence.”
Prior to the camp, the ODA IG team, under the guidance of the Children’s Cancer Foundation Singapore, participated in months of in-depth planning and site recces to mitigate potential hazards, ensuring a seamless and safe YouthConnect Camp. From mastering the best practices in engaging with young cancer survivors to addressing health and safety considerations, their dedication and foresight translated into a flawlessly executed and secure adventure!
