The Masonic Charitable Fund (MCF) is a charity organisation in Singapore known for its unwavering dedication to supporting financially disadvantaged students and ensuring that they receive education and reach their maximum potential.
SUSS is grateful to receive MCF’s latest donation of S$100,000. This is the third donation by MCF over the past four years, with the first two of varying amounts establishing the MCF Fund Study Grant, MCF-Baey Lian Peck Study Grant Fund and MCF-R. Rawlings Horsburgh Lodge Study Grant Fund that benefit full-time and part-time SUSS undergraduates.
This latest donation from MCF establishes the MCF-Sivakumar Murugaiyan Lion of Erin Lodge Study Award that supports, in perpetuity, SUSS law students and also celebrates the impact that Mr Sivakumar Murugaiyan has made as a Founding Master of the Lion of Erin Lodge.
To be presented in 2024, this endowed gift will enable a S$7,500 award to be given to a student from SUSS' Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree programme who is Singaporean, attained a GPA of 3.5, and has a monthly Per Capita Income (PCI) of not more than S$4,000 each year.
This award empowers SUSS law students to be compassionate advocates for vulnerable individuals and communities, and serves as a catalyst for their growth and development while pursuing their studies at SUSS School of Law – Singapore’s only law school with a distinct focus on family and criminal law.
To mark the establishment of the MCF-Sivakumar Murugaiyan Lion of Erin Lodge Study Award, SUSS and MCF inked a gift agreement, with Professor Tan Tai Yong, SUSS President, and Dr Brian Shegar, Chairman of MCF’s Board of Trustees, and Dr Reginald Tang, Worship Master, MCF’s Lion of Erin Lodge, amongst the signatories.

Dr Brian Shegar, shared, “MCF believes that investing in education is a meaningful way to create a brighter future for the young in our communities. Education is a powerful tool that empowers individuals and transforms lives. By supporting financially disadvantaged SUSS law students in their academic journey, we are sowing the seeds of a better and more promising tomorrow.”
Expressing his gratitude, Professor Tan Tai Yong said, “We are grateful to MCF for their donation. By supporting SUSS’ law students, MCF is not only providing the students with the means to pursue their education but is also investing in the future of families and justice. Together, we are empowering these students to become defenders of the vulnerable and professionals dedicated to upholding the rule of law.”
