SUSS community of students, staff, and alumni who came down to #CelebrateAbilities and #SupportInclusion!
For the first time, the joint SUSS-AWWA contingent was led by SUSS SEALS (Special Education & Accessible Learning Supporters), a student-led advocacy group championing disability inclusion. This year’s contingent gathered over 70 volunteers and members from AWWA School and SUSS, including 40 students, staff, and alums. This was one of our largest contingents in the past three years, bringing vibrant energy, heartfelt camaraderie, and an abundance of ‘purple spirit’ to the parade. To make the experience even more meaningful, seven SUSS contingent members paired with students from AWWA School, exploring carnival games and enjoying the parade activities together. These buddies provided a safe and supportive space, fostering genuine connections and encouraging meaningful interaction with the students from AWWA School.
SUSS students buddied up with students from AWWA and brought them around the parade to enjoy the festivities.
SEALS has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about disability inclusion within the university and the broader community. The Purple Parade has been instrumental in furthering its commitment to support PWDs. In the lead-up to TPP2024, SEALS organised SUSS’ first TPP Activation, raising awareness of the challenges faced by PWDs, showcasing various assistive technology devices to enhance daily living needs, and rallying support for disability inclusion and accessibility.
