SUSS Sports for Good: Squash CG's Collaboration with Glyph Community

For the second year in a row, SUSS Squash Competition Group (CG) collaborated with Glyph Community as part of the SUSS Sports for Good (SFG) on 8 December 2024. Glyph Community, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering underprivileged youth, provides affordable enrichment programs that bridge social and economic gaps.

Through this partnership, Squash CG introduced children aged 7-12 to the sport of squash, fostering physical and emotional development while promoting values of teamwork and resilience.

The Squash CG designed an engaging programme introducing fundamental squash techniques, including racket grips, ball control, and court movement.  By the end of the session, the children had gained confidence and enjoyed mini games reinforcing teamwork and perseverance. This opportunity to experience a new sport in a fun and supportive environment was particularly valuable for the children involved.

Reflecting on the event, Squash CG members spoke of the profound impact it had on them. Rebecca Tan, a Year 4 Full-Time Marketing student and outgoing Captain of Squash CG, shared: "Organising this event gave me valuable insights into planning and adaptability.  Adjusting the drills to match different skill levels and ensuring everyone was engaged required constant attention, but seeing their smiles made it all worthwhile."

Tan Min Zi, a Year 4 Full-Time Early Childhood Education student and outgoing Vice-Captain of Squash CG, found it rewarding to guide the children through the drills and help them build resilience.

This partnership between SUSS Squash CG and Glyph Community demonstrates the value of sport in providing enriching experiences.  The Squash CG looks forward to continuing this collaboration and inspiring more children to embrace an active lifestyle.
