The Chief Justice's Cup

On 16 September 2017, the School of Law (SLAW) students and lecturers at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) took their place alongside the other law schools in Singapore at this year’s Chief Justice’s (CJ) Cup, an annual futsal event to raise funds for the Yellow Ribbon Foundation – Singapore Academy of Law STAR Bursary. Nineteen teams from the three law schools, as well as local and foreign law firms battled it out for the trophy, raising a total of S$92,700 in the process. Seven of our students rose to the challenge, somehow finding time in between work and assignments to practise five-aside football in the run-up to the challenge. After a shock-and-awe treatment by the team from the Singapore Management University, the SUSSpects – our team’s nickname – knuckled down and fought hard, drawing all the remaining group stage matches. Even though the SUSSpects did not gain enough points to proceed to the knockouts, the team was not disappointed as they consoled themselves that they were really only defeated by the runner-up of the whole competition! The day ended with the prize presentation by Guest-of-Honour, Mr Chao Hick Tin, an appellate judge in the Supreme Court and former Attorney-General of Singapore.
