Fire alarms ringing, ambulance sirens blaring while unformed staff moved around determinedly with calm efficiency. Just a normal day for the people working at the Singapore Civil Defense Force Head Quarters (SCDF HQ) and the Paya Lebar Fire Station.
Hosted by SCDF, students from Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) were given a tour on 1 September as part of the collaboration between SCDF, SAF and SUSS in the Minor in Paramedicine and Emergency Response programme. Through this event, students from SUSS School of Science and Technology, Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with Paramedicine and Emergency Response programme got the opportunity to interact with Singapore’s finest to understand what goes on in the SCDF HQ Operations Center along with the training and systems in place which enable SCDF to better serve the residents in Singapore. This exposure enables our students to have a stronger grasp and in-depth knowledge of the emergency services in Singapore.
SUSS was represented by Associate Professor Ooi Chui Ping, Head of Biomedical Engineering programmes and from SAF, COL (Dr) Lo Hong Yee, Chief Army Medical Officer (CARMO) . They were welcomed by SCDF MAJ Janice Oh, Assistant Director Medical Department (Emergency Medical Services Readiness) and her staff.
