On 19 February 2019, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Singapore Media Academy (SMA), a subsidiary of national broadcaster Mediacorp.
The MOU was signed by Professor Tsui Kai Chong, Provost, SUSS, and Ms Jamie Ang, Chief Financial Officer, Mediacorp, and Director, SMA.
SUSS and SMA will join forces to provide opportunities for current media professionals to acquire formal training and certification at university and professional academy level; enable SUSS students to engage in applied learning and hands-on training in film and video; and co-develop online courses targeted at adult learners who need to learn on the go.
With its expertise in adult education and e-learning, SUSS is well-positioned to design and provide stackable, modular courses that give individuals the opportunity to work towards certificates in film and video, as well as upgrade to degrees at their own pace. On the other hand, SMA is the Continuing Education and Training centre for the local media industry and offers WSQ courses taught by industry personnel in fully operational studios using industry-grade equipment.
This exciting SUSS-SMA collaboration will help to meet the growing need for professionals armed with knowledge, training, and skills in storytelling and content creation. Students in SUSS and SMA will have access to rich, up-to-the-minute e-content and benefit from enhanced pathways to continuously upskill and upgrade themselves.
