Gaining Experiential Knowledge Of Criminal Legal Practice

Practical training within the law degree programmes is a unique feature of SUSS School of Law. 2020 saw the Law Society Pro Bono Services (LSPBS) and SUSS agreeing to jointly develop and launch a clerkship programme at the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS) office for SUSS law students. Administered by LSPBS, CLAS ensures that impecunious accused persons facing non-capital charges have access to justice, and receive the help, guidance and assurance they need to face the criminal justice system.

Since then, a number of SUSS law students have been attached to LSPBS thus ensuring that they are provided with structured training in the application of their legal and professional knowledge. The clinical training ensures the law students undergo authentic practical training in real-life situations.
