Through partnerships with the State Courts, Family Justice Courts, Law Society Pro Bono Services, 27 law firms and friends from the Bar on the Legal Clerkship Programme, SUSS Law programme students train with judges and practitioners on real-life cases and files, which provides them with unique practical hands-on training. This Programme is a groundbreaking capstone programme, and is unique among Singapore law schools as the sole clerkship programme which is compulsory for every law student. Through the Programme, students learn about life as a lawyer – from the nuts and bolts of practical lawyerhood, to understanding what the Court looks for in submissions, to dealing with actual clients, and even balancing work and personal life as a lawyer.
Feedback on the Programme has been positive. One student shared: “I found (the Court module in the Programme) to be particularly enriching and instructive, as well as provide an insight into the Judiciary's perspective, which will go a long way for legal practice in the future.”
Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, the SUSS partners took the time to meet up with our students to share their experiences over Zoom.
