SUSS SIG Team at the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2022.
26 February 2022 saw nine teams from various universities compete against one another at the 2022 CFA Institute Research Challenge Singapore Finals, where they assumed the role of research analysts, and presented their findings to industry veterans.
This annual global equity research competition provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Working in teams, students are judged on their ability to value a stock, write an initiation-of-coverage research report, and present their recommendations.
Zenith Capital – the SUSS Investment Group (SIG) competition team – consisting of five students, viz., Mr Ng Qi Han, Mr Jason Thoo, Mr Chua Qing Rong, Mr Yeow Yong Chang and Mr Ryan Ho, worked tirelessly and spent hours researching a Singapore-based company, SATS, over three months as part of the Challenge. Through their research, they produced an industry grade initiation report and familiarised themselves with the company, with the goal of providing a convincing and well-substantiated recommendation for their presentation.
In spite of fierce competition from universities such as National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University, and Singapore Management University, Zenith Capital put up a strong showing and clinched the first-runner up position. The overall champion was Sapphire Capital from NUS.
Zenith Capital shared: “It was an honour to have the opportunity to represent SUSS in this competition. This competition had definitely taught us a lot about ourselves and we hope that this success will inspire other students to do the same.”
