Ministry of Home Affairs

The Home Team works together as one, in close partnership with the community, to keep our people safe and secure. The Home Team’s collective efforts ensure that Singapore and all who live here enjoy peace and security.

SUSS and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) jointly launched the Bachelor of Science in Management and Security Studies (BSMSS) programme on 17 May 2006. The first of its kind in Singapore, the BSMSS programme serves as an upgrading pathway for non-graduate police officers. The programme, offered through SUSS’s modular and flexible learning pedagogy, makes it easier for in-service police officers to upgrade their qualifications, given the unpredictable nature of their duties.

On 3 May 2011, the parties renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and included several new features, such as the use of different e-learning strategies and the opening up of the Security Studies component, previously only available to the Home Team, to all SUSS students as a minor. SUSS’s School of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences (SHBS) entered a Master Collaboration Agreement with SPF on 5 October 2017, to undertake the development and administration of certification examinations for professional translators and interpreters (CEPI) and third language proficiency tests for the Civil Service. On 11 December 2019, a MOU was signed to expand and deepen the partnership between the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and SUSS in training and learning. A four-year, full-time Bachelor of Public Safety and Security (Honours) Programme will be developed by SUSS with support from the MHA. Under this collaboration, SUSS will also accredit several Home Team Departments'[1] basic training courses. These departments include the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, the Singapore Civil Defence Force, SPF and Singapore Prison Service.

[1] The Home Team Departments comprise the Singapore Police Force, Internal Security Department, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, Singapore Prison Service, Central Narcotics Bureau and Home Team Academy. The three statutory boards are the Casino Regulatory Authority of Singapore, Singapore Cooperative of Rehabilitative Enterprises and Home Team Science and Technology Agency.
