Safety and security is a concern for all. From terror attacks to industrial espionage and politically motivated cyber-attacks, the world is experiencing multiple security threats that are complex and hard to detect and defend. Recognising these challenges, governments and businesses agree they need highly trained professionals to deliver effective security outcomes. This undergraduate degree programme aims to meet this demand and professionalize the emerging field of public safety and security.
This four-year direct honours programme provides not only theoretical knowledge but also training in intervention strategies in the area of policing, emergency management, investigation, rehabilitation, crime reduction and terrorism. The courses are designed with a balance of theory and practice, and with emphasis on the development of management, communication and critical thinking skills.
Upon successful completion of this programme, graduates can look forward to a wide range of meaningful careers in the government, business and social service sectors.
Students may pursue Public Safety and Security with minors in Criminology, Crisis Management, Psychosocial Intervention, Food Security and Sustainability, or Cyber Safety and Information Security.
Students may also pursue Public Safety and Security with a second major in Supply Chain Management, Communication, Human Resource Management, or Information and Communication Technology.
