Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Adult Learning (GDALL) offers professionals in the training and adult education sector theoretical knowledge and practical skills to enhance their work quality. The programme covers topics in understanding adult learners, designing learning and assessment, integrating technology into workplace learning, developing learning needs analyses, and measuring quality and evaluation in different learning and working contexts.

Graduates of the GDALL can look forward to implementing with confidence theoretically informed and practical transformations in adult learning contexts. They will be well-positioned to initiate and lead organisational learning, innovation and change, and drive progress in their organizations.

Admission Requirements

Refer to general admission criteria for graduate programmes.

In addition, applicants will need to meet these minimum requirements:

  • At least 2 years of work experience
  • Undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution

This programme is currently unable to take in international students, i.e., you must be a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or a resident in Singapore (e.g., Employment Pass holder) in order to apply for admission.

This Graduate Diploma programme is designed for:

  • Adult educators
  • Faculty and leaders of Institutes of Higher Learning
  • Learning and Development (L&D) professionals in enterprises
  • Other training and adult education sector professionals such as courseware developers, learning consultants, learning tech designers, learning quality managers and learning/training managers.

Graduates will have adult learning-related knowledge and skills to apply across a diverse spectrum of careers within the Training and Adult Education (TAE) sector, such as in Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and in Learning and Development (L&D) roles within enterprises. Particularly valuable will be their deep understanding of innovative approaches, techniques and analyses of adult learning needs, design and implementation. The programme opens doors for individuals seeking to transition into careers within the adult learning field, supporting them in expanding their career options and prospects. Graduates already engaged in these careers will see significant enhancement to their existing work, potentially leading to professional upgrading opportunities.

  1. How many intakes are there for GDST?
    One intake per year, in July.

  2. What is the maximum candidature period for GDST?
    Maximum candidature of 2 years.

  3. What is the graduation requirement?
    To obtain the Graduate Diploma, students need to achieve a CGPA of at least 2.5 (out of 5.0).

  4. When are classes scheduled?
    All classes are scheduled on Saturdays.

  5. What are assessment components in each course?
    The components are knowledge building, individual assignment and end-of-course assignment

  6. Where would lessons be held?
    Lessons will be held at the Institute for Adult Learning, located at the Lifelong Learning Institute at Paya Lebar.

  7. What happens if I do not complete the graduate programmes (e.g. Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master) within the candidature period? Can I apply to take the remaining courses via CET pathway?
    Students who have not completed their graduate programmes within the stipulated candidature period will not be eligible for the award of the qualification for such graduate programmes. Such students however may apply to take, via the CET pathway, the remaining courses which they did not complete under their graduate programmes as part of their personal learning and development. Such application will be subjected to the CET admission requirement. However, as such students have exceeded the candidature period for their graduate programmes, they will not be awarded the qualification for such graduate programmes even after taking and completing the remaining courses via the CET pathway (“Condition”).
