Overview of SUSS Master of Finance

The Master of Finance (MFIN) programme, the Graduate Diploma in Financial Technology (GDFT) programme, and the Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology (GCFT) programme offered by the School of Business at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) aim to help finance professionals and those in the PMET segment to gain knowledge of financial innovations and technologies, and to support upskilling to meet work challenge posed by advancements in technology and the disruptive changes in applications, processes, products, as well as business models that are transforming financial services industry.

These programmes cater to entrepreneurs, mid-career bankers, executives and finance professionals to acquire professional advancement and deepen their knowledge of finance, financial technologies and financial innovations. SUSS alumni who are looking for upgrading opportunities in finance area will find that these programmes are good options for them to continue with lifelong learning.



Unique Features of the Master of Finance Programme
  • We focus on financial technologies and financial innovations. Deviating from traditional finance programmes, we emphasise more on technical know-how, programming skills and hands-on lab training.
  • The programmes are stackable and thus in line with the nation's emphasis on stackable credentials that facilitate lifelong learning. Students who have graduated with GCFT are entitled to course credit transfer when they further enrol in GDFT and MFIN programmes. Students who have graduated with GDFT are entitled to course credit transfer when they enrol in MFIN programme. Students can also apply for MFIN programme directly, achieving all three certs when they complete the full master programme.
  • Master of Finance graduands are exempted from the Chartered FinTech Professional (CFtP) Level 1 exams. Find out more details under 'Programme Structure' section.

Overview of FHNW

Overview of FHNW Master of Science in International Management

The Master of Science in International Management programme is designed for students who are pursuing an international career in a corporation, non-profit organisation or public administration. The local and international elective modules offered in the programme allow students to customise an individual study portfolio. Students will also gain international experience through a variety of real-world applied learning trips.

Admission Requirements

  • A recognised Bachelor's degree in disciplines such as business, management, economics, engineering management, business information systems/technology, finance, tourism, psychology or in a similar or related programme
  • Good linguistic abilities in English
    • Please submit your English score obtained within the last 2 years at point of application if your undergraduate degree is not awarded by an English-medium university, or your undergraduate degree is awarded by an English-medium university but the language of instruction was not in English.
    • At least an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5, or a TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 85 (internet-based), or a PTE Academic score of 58, or C1 Advanced score of 180.
  • Relevant work experience
  • Applicants with social outreach or volunteering experience have an added advantage

The number of places for this programme is limited. Shortlisted applicants are required to undergo two rounds of interviews and take some written admission tests.

All applications are considered individually based on merit, and the offer of admission is dependent on the number of places available in the individual programmes. Admission is solely at the discretion of SUSS and the decision is final and binding. SUSS reserves the right to refuse admission and is not obliged to offer an explanation for the non-admission of unsuccessful candidates.

This programme is open to Singapore citizens, permanent residents, as well as international students.

Exemption of Chartered FinTech Professional (CFtP) Level 1 Exams

The Chartered FinTech Professional (CFtP) qualification is developed by Global FinTech Institute (GFI), in collaboration with the Shanghai Institute of International Finance Center (SIIFC) of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).

The aims of the qualification are the promotion of the field of Fintech and professionalism in the Fintech industry. It consists of two levels, Level 1 and Level 2. Upon successful completion of all the exams for the two levels as well as satisfying experience requirements, candidates will be awarded the Charter.

Master of Finance programme prepares our students for the CFtP Level 2 Exam, and our graduands are exempted from Level 1 Exams. Particularly, students will be exempted from Level 1A exam, if they have completed:

  • FIN521 Financial System, Financial Markets and Financial Supervision
  • FIN523 Wealth Management and Investment Products
  • FIN541 Asset Allocation and Wealth Management Business
  • FIN549 Financial Management for Fintech Professionals
    (Alternatively, students can choose to submit proof of prior training and work experience in this domain)

Students will be exempted from Level 1B exam, if they have completed:

  • FIN525 Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Applications in Finance
  • FIN551 Python Programming
  • FIN559 Big Data, Cloud Computing and Machine Learning
  • FIN529 Computer Network and Network Security
    (Alternatively, students can choose to submit proof of prior training and work experience in this domain)

SUSS Node for Inclusive Fintech (NiFT)

The SUSS Node for Inclusive Fintech (NiFT) is the "Centre of Excellence" to spearhead all fintech initiatives at the university. A multi-disciplinary centre drawing on expertise from faculty members across SUSS' five schools, and their collective publications and programmes. The Node for Inclusive Fintech serves to deliver high-quality research, public education, and policy advocacy for inclusivity in the Financial Technology sector for the benefit of society.   1. How many intakes are there in a year for the SUSS Master of Finance + FHNW Master of Science in International Management programme?
    There are two intakes per year that take place in January and July.

  2. How long does it take to complete the SUSS Master of Finance + FHNW Master of Science in International Management programme?
  3. The minimum duration is two years while the maximum is four years.

  4. Is GMAT or GRE required for admission?
  5. No, GMAT or GRE score is not required.

  6. Is an interview required for admission?
  7. Shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo two interviews conducted by both universities. In addition, the applicant needs to prepare a 1,000-word letter of motivation..

  8. What are the assessment components for each course?
  9. The assessment comprises a mixture of pre-course quizzes, class participation, online discussion boards, individual assignments, group-based assignments, and examinations/end-of-course assessments. Students will need to achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.0 (i.e., 60/100) to be awarded SUSS Master of Finance + FHNW Master of Science in International Management.

  10. When are the lessons scheduled?
  11. At SUSS, classes are generally conducted on weekday evenings from 7pm to 10pm or weekends.

    At FHNW, classes are generally conducted on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

    Core modules are taught on Fridays between 8:15am and 12pm, or 1:15pm and 5pm over a minimum of 12 weeks.

    Elective modules are taught on Thursdays or Saturdays from 8:15am to 5pm (lunch time is between 12pm and 1pm) for 6 weeks.

    Collaborative/joint modules with global universities or inter-schools within FHNW can take place on any day of the week and with an unusual scheduling depending on the collaborative partners’ time zone.

    There may be one-week intensive modules abroad which students can opt to take as an elective course. These modules will be conducted full-day daily over the one-week duration.

  12. If I am an international student, do I need to apply for visa to come to Singapore?

  14. What happens if I do not complete the graduate programmes (e.g. Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Master) within the candidature period? Can I apply to take the remaining courses via CET pathway?
    Students who have not completed their graduate programmes within the stipulated candidature period will not be eligible for the award of the qualification for such graduate programmes. Such students however may apply to take, via the CET pathway, the remaining courses which they did not complete under their graduate programmes as part of their personal learning and development . Such application will be subjected to the CET admission requirement. However, as such students have exceeded the candidature period for their graduate programmes, they will not be awarded the qualification for such graduate programmes even after taking and completing the remaining courses via the CET pathway (“Condition”).
