Diversity, Inclusion and Social Impact: Highlights from Lead for Good Carnival 2024

The Lead for Good Carnival x SUSS Family Day, held on 15 June 2024, was a vibrant celebration of community and collaboration at the SUSS Campus. This event, co-organised by SUSS Student Success Centre (SSC) and the SUSS Recreational Committee 2024, brought together students, staff, families and community partners from social service agencies for a day filled with engaging activities and meaningful interactions. Igniting a strong sense of community spirit among all participants, it encouraged the exchange of ideas, all aimed at driving positive social impact.

The carnival kicked off with an inspiring welcome from SUSS President, Professor Tan Tai Yong, who emphasized the power of uniting diverse backgrounds to foster positive change. He encouraged everyone to not only celebrate their differences but also to work together to create lasting, positive impacts in communities that thrive on collective support.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of student leaders from the SUSS LEAD Academy played a crucial role in organising the event, rallying the support of 19 Student Groups, including Advocacy Groups (AGs), Competition Groups (CGs), and Interest Groups (IGs). Their unwavering dedication and innovative spirit brought the SUSS RAISE Values to life, fuelling the vibrant success of the carnival.

Participants of all ages enjoyed a wide range of activities, from competitive games like Mario Kart and Basketball to educational sessions such as the Bees Farm Tour and Honey Making Workshop. They also got their hands busy with Pouch Bag Painting and Bracelet/Badge Making workshops, leaving with personalized keepsakes.

In a heartwarming gesture of giving back, the carnival also supported the SUSS Giving Day 2024 through SSC’s Lead for Good - Better Together Challenge. A total of $1,140 was raised. These funds will go towards the Sports for Good Fund. This empowers SUSS Competition Groups to create sports programmes for underserved communities, building on the impactful initiatives from last year.

More than just a fun day out, this carnival was a celebration of the SUSS spirit—a reminder that through unity, creativity and collaboration, we can drive meaningful change.  The SSC eagerly anticipates further collaboration with community partners in the next edition of the Lead for Good Carnival in 2025.
