The highlight of the event was the appearance of 89-year-old Masako Wakamiya, a pioneering app developer and champion of lifelong learning. Fresh from delivering inspiring talks on the PeaceBoat World Cruise, Masako captivated the audience with her story of learning English in her 60s and achieving remarkable success after turning 80. Her story reinforced the message that embracing technology and continuing learning is never too late. Furthermore, her app and impressive Excel Art skills caught Apple’s CEO’s attention and garnered media recognition. Masako also provided valuable tips for active ageing, encouraging older adults to stay engaged and curious.
A joyful gathering with special guests and eager attendees learning so much from this exchange!
Moderated by Dr Kelvin Tan, the fireside chat also acknowledged the contributions of Mr Kawai Naoki from the Embassy of Japan in Singapore and other key partners. The event culminated in launching the LION (LifeCourse in Online Narrative) initiative, a project to enhance the quality of life for older adults and their caregivers through real-life stories.
