Deep-Rooted Commitment
to the Community

Growing from a small shop to a regional enterprise, Cortina Watch, now more than 50 years old, has never forgotten where it came from and continues to help the local community thrive.

It began in 1972 as a small business opened by Mr Anthony Lim, a watch salesman with a passion for luxury Swiss watches.

Today, Cortina Watch is a publicly listed enterprise leading the luxury watch retail market in Asia.

2022 marked the company’s 50th anniversary. Not forgetting its humble beginnings in Singapore, Cortina Watch made a $1.62 million donation to various local communities.

That year, the SUSS School of Humanities and Behavioural Sciences (SHBS) received $20,000 from Cortina Watch to support students of the Bachelor of Arts in Translation and Interpretation programme.

Many SUSS students have benefited from Cortina Watch’s previous donations.

For the past five years, SUSS has awarded the Cortina Watch Study Award in Translation Studies to students who require financial aid.

In addition to the study awards, the latest donation will also be used to establish the new Cortina Watch Achievement Awards, which will be awarded to the top performing student in the Translation and Interpreting specialisation, respectively. The Cortina Watch Achievement Award in Translation and Cortina Watch Achievement Award in Interpreting will be given out at the SUSS Convocation annually.

Chooi Pei Xuan, who graduated from the BA Translation and Interpretation programme and received the study award in 2021, says that she felt recognised for her hard work and became more motivated to achieve better results.

“The award helped to lessen my financial burden,” she adds, “and I was able to pursue my education with more ease and confidence.”
