Twin brothers Collin and Leon, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Public Safety and Security Interest Group (PSS IG) respectively, have always wanted to help the more vulnerable communities within SUSS.
When they learnt about the SUSS Giving Day Marketplace Fun(d) Fair, they and their interest group found it the right opportunity to raise funds for the SUSS PSS student body.
“We wanted to use the funds to care for our PSS students. For example, in the past, students had to pay for their examination welfare packs. Through this fundraiser, we can provide them for free!” Collin says.
Students, alumni, faculty, staff, social enterprises and external vendors set up a variety of booths with some or all of the proceeds going towards the SUSS Giving Day.
Shared smiles and joyful moments at the inaugural SUSS Giving Day Marketplace Fun(d) Fair.
The inaugural fun fair is part of the annual SUSS Giving Day, an initiative that encourages the SUSS community to be changemakers of society by donating funds or spearheading fundraising campaigns through the Better Together Challenge. A portion of all funds raised went towards the President’s Challenge.
Together with their fellow PSS IG members, Collin and Leon organised a game booth where participants can donate and stand a chance to win prizes by shooting plastic cups and printed targets with Nerf guns. The group raised almost $1,000 from 20 supporters.
“There is strength in numbers,” Leon says. “When we come together, we are building solidarity among ourselves and the people we are helping. Building this bond will help reignite the kampung spirit and create a culture of helping the more vulnerable communities.”
